Odeo, Rojo and X-Men 3
Wednesday, June 7th, 2006Ok… so Windows Media Player 11 doesn’t seem to have a really super good Podcast subscription method… you have to enter all the feeds manually… it is a bit shitty. But at the cost of not being a subscribed Urge member I will take the bad with the good. I could of course leave iTunes installed on my PC and use that for downloading podcasts, but I hate iTunes so fuck that idea. So I was researching methods of dealing with this problem and came across “an old friend”. Back when I am posting up the like 3 podcasts I did (and yes I still have intentions of doing more, most likely after I get my business going for about 6 months and I am not feeling that month to month roller-coaster effect of work) I posted it on Odeo. Now I am not sure what Odeo’s complete function is, I know it allows for searching and tagging of podcasts, but I can tell you what I use it for… it is basically Bloglines of podcasting. I create a subscription list of all the podcasts I want to monitor and it allows me to either listen to them right there on the web (kinda shitty player, but nice to use when I am away from my PC) or I can download Juice software and it creates a playlist in my Windows Media Player of all my podcasts. The one thing I liked about iTunes is that it broke the podcasts down into groups like “All Twit Podcasts”, and while Odeo doesn’t do this, it basically gives me one big list with the newest on top, I am actually finding that this works out better for me as I don’t check 10 little folders sets for new podcasts.
So this while podcast search actually brought me to Rojo. I love the concept of Bloglines… but the interface is kinda old looking and after having Odeo with all the taggins and such that I love… mmmmm… del.icio.us….. I wanted a nice looking web based RSS reader that allowed for tagging. So, I started out with Newsgator which sucked so bad I won’t even link to it… but eventually came to Rojo. Rojo lets me use the web to read my RSS feeds, tag entire items and tag feeds. It has cool features like del.icio.us to show you what everyone else is reading and you can give “Mojo” to certain posts, kinda like digg as a vote of “coolness”. My favorite thing is that it doesn’t mark shit as read unless I actually clicked on it… the idea that Bloglines said I saw it cause I clicked ona link was really pissing me off.
In other “MindShadow” news… I saw X-Men 3… it was entertaining but there was way to much shit left open… like to the point I was like “what about this” and “what about that”. I felt unsatisfied like it was the Matrix 2… so sad.
