Social Networks: Facebook

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

I am a strong advocate of the use of Social Networks…. more specifically well designed social networks. The idea of connecting people on different interests, history, location, etc is what will bring the internet into the non geeky masses. Social networks also allow traffic to be driven to smaller blogs and allow authors, designers and creaters who don’t neccessarily have lots of bucks to back them to show their “skills”.

That being said, it has been hard for me to commit to a social network because they all have so many good and bad things. I hate MySpace’s interface, Linked In is just ridiculously expensive and Orkut is invite only. I have been hearing a lot about Facebook but until now was limited to students and employees of certain companies.

According to TechCrunch, Facebook just opened up to the public masses. I advise you to sign up and check it out.

Even if you already have a blog or a internet presence, infact ESPECIALLY if you have a blog or internet presence, and are looking to drive traffic to it, social networks are an easy way to list your site out there for people to find you both socially and professionally.
