If you do web design or are planning on hiring a web designer, here is a great article to check out

Web Standard Checklist

When building a web site from both a designers and buyers perspective it is important to keep standard in mind for accessibility as well as maintenance. Using standards means quicker, cheaper and easier updates for both the designer as well will allow the buyer to move between designers relatively painlessly… it is a win win situation. I highly advise if you are a web designer or application builder you become familiar with standards just to improve your skill set as well make your life a whole lot easier and if you are a site owner you should definitely have an understanding of what you want from your web designer or web design firm.
