XFN isn’t Trailer Trash Friendly
Saturday, August 25th, 2007I am a strong supporter of XFN… infact I am a strong supporter of microformats in general. I particularly like XFN because I am a member of about 1000 social networks (or at least it feels that way) and I have a kerbillion of “friends and they all have “friends. IRL? I probably could count my “friends on my two hands, but with social networking my “friends include coworkers, contacts, fans, stalkers, family BLAH BLAH BLAH… you get the point. XFN allows me to tag those relationships with set tags so not only are my friends tagged appropriate (which that data could be used for infinite possibilities… Pownce anyone?) but I can also look at my friend’s friends and get a feel for the relationship allowing me to contact people I share interests with and connect.
Example: My friend Bruce has a contact and we happen to listen to the same music and I see that in their Facebook. I probably am more inclined to contact that person if the relationship is a true friend or family member then I would be if it was a coworker or aquaintance.
Ok, so thats all fine and dandy. I am currently implementing XFN in a project I am working on and realized that XFN probably needs to be updated to include things, so here are my recommended updates.
