Boring Blog Themes

I often get asked why this blog’s theme is so boring. As a web designer, promoting web design you would think I would have something extremely artsy and cutting edge. Much of my work involved theming CMSs like Wordpress and I certainly familiar enough with the theming process that I could do something, but I actually have a couple valid reasons why I don’t and I figured I would post them here once and for all.

1) K2 – I love the features of the K2 theme. I think the workings of it are elegant and precise. On the same note K2 is in release candidate phase and seems to be approaching a 1.0 release. I am attempting to hold off for that release date.

2) Visual Usability – I used to have a much more designeresque blog theme but I stopped using it for two reasons… it sacrificed function over form and being that I am a designer I feel I should have something of my own. K2 stands out enough as K2 that I don’t think people will think I am trying to claim the design as my own.

3) Overly Inspired – I surf through probably 100 new blogs a day, mostly by web designers. It is hard for me to focus in on what I want. With a customer you ask them “how do you want to appear” and then you have something to go on… I have a hard time with narrowing down how >>I<< want to appear.

In the long term there isn’t a good excuse, but I can say that once I get some larger projects out of the way, I will be creating a nice slick blog theme based on K2 and I will release it for the public.
