So I am down to 2 instant messengers, and from the looks of it that is all I will ever need. (I am not counting skype because that is a whole different thing, but honestly as soon as gtalk gets a larger audience I have no interest in skype, except for all the lovely sex chat messages I get). SO, MSN and Yahoo! are in bed together…. I will stick with the new MSN live client, much cleaner and I don’t feel 14 years old using it. AOL and Gtalk are going to be in bed shortly… doesn’t really effect me as people on AOL seem to be 5 years old, but it is nice that say incase my cousin is using it I don’t need to download that crappy client. Now if only my two remaining clients could get together I would be all set… but for now being that I love the saving chat feature of Gtalk with a global log accessible from anywhere, and I use the video portion of MSN I am happy.

WHAT I DO NEED, is the ability within the client to have MULTIPLE screen names. I need this because I have two distinct lives that I don’t want crossing over into each other… there is sort of a fuzzy line already, but say when I meet someone on DeviantArt or on IRC, I just don’t quite feel comfortable to opening up all my professional life to them. I also want to be able to be in “work mode” or “professional mode” or even “BFF mode” and be able to talk to people on IM without getting messages from people in other groups. Trillian let me do this, but unfortunately their native client support was lacking and people would do things like try and send me files or video chat and it wouldn’t work, plus the fucking crossed the streams and I couldn’t really add a contact to one “personality” or another.

Anyway, this… coupled with the fact that download.microsoft.com is down, makes my life a little harder and a little sadder.

On another note I have moved back onto IRC… after like 12 years, which time I did a few small IRC blips. I am back on Freenode, hanging out in mainly #wordpress… but there are tons of other channels to check out… I am “observing” #rubyonrails. I also sometimes stop in the DeviantArt chat server, but it is very “kiddy” so I usually don’t stick around. Anyway, I think you all should come on and we can park ourselves in some invite only channel where we can post nonesense BS for when we are bored and talk in groups if we are bored as well.
