My Weekend
Friday, October 14th, 2005So I am not feeling good… I have been kinda sick all week, but I woke up this morning and I think I am having a relapse, which probably means I won’t go out tonight, but maybe instead I will stay home tonight and then go check out that 80s night club at Sunset station I have been wanting to see on Saturday. Oh well, if I can’t come up with anything better at least I will get some game time in.
My to do list for this weekend encompasses these tasks:
1) Get BeckyRuxpin all backed up, formatted and Suse 10 installed. The web sites should be up and running immediately, as for web mail etc that may take a bit longer - This may be delayed as I promised Bruce I would speak to him first and I believe he is at Rubyconf
2) Clean my bedroom… it is clean but I never get around to folding laundry.
3) Work with Rails. I figured it was time for me to take a look into this whole Rails thing so I recently installed Suse 10 on a home machine, installed MySQL, Ruby and Rails. I am going through some basic tutorials. Although I know I probably won’t be using it for programming use, as I am not a programmer, it is always good to have a grip on what is going on out there in the world.
4) Clean up my bookmarks… I have tons of shit I need to read from this week I bookmarked. I am thinking about starting a Blog on my experience in starting my PBG… not a new site, but an actual Wordpress install at like startup.poweredbygeek.com to use A) to help me keep my sanity and all my to do lists and shit linked from one place and also to note down my experiences about DBAs etc.
5) Figure out what is wrong with my XBMC
6) Record 3 podcasts and get all that shit figured out.
Thats about it… probably won’t get through it all as 1 and 3 could take hours, but it is always good to plan. I like open planning like goals and then I work a little at each one. I can’t stand timed planning like “at 8 pm I will do this” etc. Just me. I have been reading a lot on productivity and self motivation. One thing I learned that timed planning can fuck you up if you don’t stick with it 100% as many people have tendancies to throw the whole plan away if something pops up.
